Local Amenities
Until you have experienced La Joliere (‘the pretty place’ – named in long ago times) you will not appreciate the wonderful feeling of peace and tranquillity there to be enjoyed, and yet you are so close to all amenities. Gathemo, the nearest village with a bar, shop and a boulangerie, is two miles away. Two and a half miles in the other direction lies St Germain de Tallevande with a pharmacy, bar and small supermarket. The bustling town of Vire with shops, restaurants, cinema, theatre, market etc. is 6 miles away.
La Joliere is centrally placed and therefore a host of interesting destinations are easily accessible by car – Le Mont St Michel 50 minutes, the west coast with lovely beaches 40 minutes, Bayeux and the Normandy landing beaches 1½ hours or, much closer to home, Villedieu the ‘copper town’ with its working bell foundry, the granite museum, Bellfontaine the enchanted village and of course the many open-air French markets.
Wonderful walks and cycle routes lie at the foot of your drive and a 5 minute car ride brings you to a golf course (day tickets available) overlooking Lake Dathee where boats may be hired. Horseriding and fishing are available locally.
